"sills" for plants
does anyone know of an attachment that you can add to your windowsill for plants?
It seems as if i have seen them advertised before, but now cannot recall.
I have a small space for my plants in a sunny window and now not enough "sill" space.
this would be a bit like the sill i have seen that you can install for pets.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
M

I've always thought they ought to make something like that, but I've never seen it. They make a cat perch that sits on a sill. Maybe you could get one and adapt it.

You can find other types by googling "window perch." http://www.mrpearl11.com/Cat_Window_Perch_Grey.aspx

I have one that I ordered from Lillian Vernon or Carol Wright catalogs, one of those useless knick-knack catalogs, but it never worked with any of my windows, so it is taking up space on a shelf in my basement. It is designed to work with the older double hung type of windows. What sort of windows do you have?

hello,
I have 3 small dining room windows that are in the shape of a bay window.
The sills are narrow and the entire space is small...it's a perfect spot though for plants that like the sun...the sills are about 8" deep and i just want a bracketed extension so i can put the plants in the sun.
The concept is one that i have seen somewhere...there's even one for cats to sun themselves...just need to adapt this for plants.
I may check out the lillian vernon website as you mentioned.
Thanks for the response.

The plant shelf I purchased is way different from what you are looking for, and I have had it for a loooong time. Could you maybe just find a small table to put in that area? Or just buy a wide board long enough to reach all the way across and then have the ends angle-cut to fit in there balanced on top of the narrow existing sills. Paint or stain it to match your existing woodwork and you would have a pretend real bay window area that you could just pull out when it is time to put the plants outdoors for the summer.

i thought about all of that, including the small table...but even finding a slim tall enough table is a challenge it seems. Where did you buy your shelf? is it the one you refer to as taking up space in the basement?
Thanks for the response.

Could you look for the type of table that people put behind a couch. Like if their couch is protruding ou into the room. Those long thin tables that frequently have a little lamp or decorative items? Maybe try a second hand store or unfinished furniture or even eBay or Craig's List?

I honestly don't remember which little catalog I ordered it from. Are there any handy woodworkers in your family that could perhaps build you a table? Tell them what a good gift that would be for you!
