No zuccinis (post #12594)

I grew two zuccini plants from seed this year in a new place in the garden - I have two beautifully large plants but no squash - I asked at the garden center and the owner said that the thunderstorms this summer caused too much nitrogen to be in the air - is that possible?

Well, that sounds totally unlikely to me, but I guess the garden store owner thought it sounded better than "I don't know". I had a few things that did not set any fruit this summer, like eggplant and green peppers, but I think it was because of the consistently cool weather we had. There just are no guarantees when you plant seeds that they will do what they should, but there is always next summer when you could get buried in zucchini. I would probably not plant ant more from that seed packet though.

I have no squash either but I have small plants with very few flowers. Plenty of bees around the flowers planted nearby, too. My mom took the rest of my seed and planted it, in a colder zone several weeks after me and she has been giving her squash to the foodbank she has so much!!

It was a 3 seed mix with three varieties from Renee's garden. I just think I am a failure at zucchini. last year I planted an Italian variety - the plant was the size of a Volkswagon with tons of flowers and maybe 4 squash all total.
