dying rosemary bush
I have a rosemary bush that was sent to me at Christmas (in the mail). It was doing great, then I transplanted it into a larger pot....and its gone downhill. Its almost dead and nothing seems to be helping it. Tried letting it dry, then watering...special soil, etc.
Any helpful hints?

Sorry about your rosemary. I had the same problem - the culprit - the soil I transplanted it to was too rich and too wet.
It likes soil with few nutrients and likes to be on the dry side. Depending on the number of needles lost, I'd cut it way back and let it start all over. Sometimes they can just go down fast!!! So, crappy soil and less water!

Rosemary is woody so it it sometimes difficult to keep it growing, particularly in a pot. If you are determined to grow rosemary, check out a good nursery and, if you buy, get a large-ish plant with plenty of root. Wait until the weather is getting warm to plant and keep an eye on the soil moisture level. Once you get it started it may be hard to keep it down to size, check plant labels or ask about the plants growing habits. They can be pruned easily. If it survives and grows the first year, you may have a winner.

My daughter had a fabulous rosemary planted next to the foundation of her house. The house was on a poured concrete slab with radiant heat in the slab. A 1950s house, it had no foundation insulation so the soil was warmed and dried in the winter. Mediteranian conditions and the plant thrived.

I think rosemary must like heat, as you said. I have two bush size plants that get a lot of sun, are planted in clay, and protected on the south side from all day sun. I was just looking at them the other day, I need to prune again soon, they are thriving.
