Looking for garden designer in Eastern CT (post #15403)

Hi -

I am clearing out a big area which has been overgrown and neglected for years at an old family cottage on a lake.  I plan to plant it with some shrubs and perennials.  I would ideally like to find a professional garden designer in my area that can help me create a plan which I would then plant myself.   I live in Eastern CT - does anyone have any recommendations - or know how best to find someone?

Thanks

Will you be there to tend to the plantings? The plants will need watering, long enough for them to get the roots established.

Some nurseries have landscape designers associated with them. I have friends who've gotten consultations that way. It can include anything from a walk around to formal plans with or without installation.

I'm just really curious-what word did the censors delete in your posting? I had that happen one time and could not remember anything I had posted that could be even remotely offensive. About finding a good garden designer, I would go to my favorite nursery/garden center and see if they have a bulletin board with business cards or ask if they have recommendations. Or try googling garden designers with your zip code or town added and maybe you will find some good sites. Are you close to White Flower Farms Nursery? Going there to see their display gardens might give you some ideas.

I don't know what they deleted - I think maybe I hit a key by mistake when I posted it.   All I wrote was looking for a garden designer in eastern CT.   Nothing too racy!

Thanks for the advice on the garden centers - I may try that.  I may also take a ride to White Flower Farm - its about an hour from me and I would love to see it.

It's definitely worth the drive.  I was there last year for the first (and only) time, and their long border was amazing.

There is a wonderful nursery in Eastern CT (Brooklyn) that I drive from Fairfield County to visit. Wayne is the name of the owner and he works with people at Storrs to develop new plants. He has wonderful beds of different types of plants including a hardy cactus garden that he built with the help of John Spain whose garden I just visited on a Garden Conservancy day. That Nursery is Quackin Grass and you can google it. If you go tell him one of the wild women of wilton sent you. If he can't help you himself, I am sure he knows someone who can.

He also has wonderful alpines and natives.

Also in that area (Danielson) is Logees Nursery but more for indoor plants.
