Roses from 1952

I'm trying to surprise a friend who turns 50 this year with a rose bush from 1952. Can anyone suggest a variety that is fairly disease resistant and is not orange or orange-red? Thanks

At the risk of sounding like I own a percentage of Roses Unlimited, I'm going to recommend them again, because I know one of their special services is providing roses from bygone years to people wanting to celebrate wedding anniversaries, birthdays, and so on with roses introduced in those years or carried in wedding bouquets, etc. In their catalogue there are several not-orange from 1952, including dark-red Chrysler Imperial and the pink floribunda Ma Perkins. Phone # in SC is (864) 682-7673.

Heirloom Old Garden Roses in Oregon is a great source of roses on their own root systems. Catalog is TDF and lists descriptions AND dates.

Thanks for the information. Roses Unlimited was incredible! It might be hard to track down some of the species, but that is part of the fun.
