Current issue (April 2012) Excellent

I am really enjoying this months issue.  It seemed to be packed with more in-depth articles and plant-centric topics.  Not so much on design this month, which I think is a good thing.  Design topics can have nice eye-candy, but they can be hard to individualize and put into practice.  I hate it when I just flip pages muttering, "been there... yada yada...".  Instead I am carefully reading and marking up several articles.  Even though I've been gardening for many years, I love to learn and grow and this issue got my juices going.  (or maybe it's a sign that winter is too long here in New England - ha ha).

"Soil In Containers Should Be A Good Mix" (post #19453, reply #1 of 2)

If I'm on the same page here, there's too much chemical fertilizer being used in container gardening, in my opinion. People don't realize how destructive chemical fertilizer is this environment. I use a diluted liquid organic concentrate, consisting of fish extract and sea kelp. It's more productive because it doesn't kill the essential organisms that plants thrive on. It also can be applied to the foliage where as chemical fertilizers would kill the plants.

Also appreciated this issue and the August 2012 (post #19453, reply #2 of 2)

I liked this issue as well.  I have dogeared the articles on geums and the "Cinderella" plants.  They immediately gave me some options for replacing better known plants that don't seem to thrive in my zone 9 (USDA AND Sunset) climate (we moved here 4 years ago from Sonoma County,CA with more moderate summer temperatures).  I always enjoy the Regional Picks in each issue.  And the August 2012 issue has a plethora of interesting plant-specific info including clematis and a wonderful article on fragrant plants with some types I hadn't seen before.  All of these things are truly inspiring for me.
