Here are a few photos from July 20.

God talked with man in Eden's shade. Christ sought a garden when He prayed.

Hostas (post #17576, reply #1 of 4)

How do you keep your hostas looking so good aside from spraying them with pesticides?  I have to use copious amounts of Liquid Fence tstarting as soon as the leaves emerge from the ground o keep the deer from eating mine and it seems to keep the slugs and other pests away until July then i get little holes in the leaves.   I spray religiously every month.  I have mostly shade in Northern VA and have 3/4 acre and the hostas keep proliferating all over the place.  I must have hundreds, but only about 10-12 varieties.

Chrysanthemum~ I have (post #17576, reply #2 of 4)

Chrysanthemum~ I have beautiful hostas in the gardens with no damage and use absolutely NO  pesticides. My trick is to use pine straw as mulch and to water the hostas overhead so the moister does not collect directly under the hosta leaves. It has worked for me with great success.

I had been using Escargo for slugs, but it got too expensive and I still had slug damage.   I now make a spray that I use weekly to kill the slugs. I don't think the deer like the smell.  It is 1 part ammonia and 4 parts water. Spray leaves, stems and the ground around the plant.  Make sure you spray in the early morning when it is cool and NO SUN.  I hope this helps with your slug problem. Smiles, Lark
