HGTV Rant (post #11525)

OK, I got up early today, even though I took a vacation day today, so that I could watch my favorite show on HGTV at 7 am, Gardener's Diary.  I turned on the TV at about 6:57 am only to watch the ending credits for the show.  Those XZ!!@#!! programmers moved it to 6:30 am, swapping it with Rebecca's Garden, that sorry excuse for a gardening show.  This after only about a month in its 7 am Friday time slot, having moved there from 7 am Thursday.  At least the last time they moved it, I didn't miss the show, just had to wait another day for it.  I still can't believe they did this.  I'm still steamed at missing it today.

Gardeners aren't a demographic you want to hack off. They might put rose canes under your tires or in your mailbox.

But how do I find the tires of the XZ#%^!!X!! that did this to the schedule?!

I agree with you so much. That is my favorite garden show also. I don't know why they took it off programming for the longest time only to return it and jerk it around. Makes me think the people in charge don't like gardners with all the landscape c r a p on HGTV.

I don't watch HGTV. There's way too much H and not nearly enough G.

I was thinking just that the other day. Why? Could it be because there is little or no "instant" gratification with actual gardening?

That must be it. So much easier to repaint a room.

Exactly.  I have been so often disappointed by them.

Yes. A Gardener's diary and Gardeners Journal which I haven't seen in forever are great shows. They are for gardeners about gardeners. Erica makes us feel welcome to stroll along with her in these beautiful gardens. Very inspiring.

TIVO.

Can TIVO find the show when the station has suddenly moved it to a different time?

absolutely. It automatically receives new program guide continually.

That would be nice.

TV broadcast switches to all digital in a few days.  I'm on antenna and I bought a new TV so I would be compatable without having to get a converter.  Now all the warning adds on the tube a saying that I won't get broadcast TV without a converted.  Whose being stupid. Them or me?

I'd take that stupid TV back to the store!

I checked with the Radio shack guy today and he told me that all new TYs hafta     recieve digital so I won't need a converter.  I'm at the far end of the broadcast range.  I get VHF clearly but UHF if iffy.  The new digital broadcast is in the UHF frequencies so I bought a digital antenna to replace the old antenna and a signal amplifier.  The trees have gotten a lot higher since I installed the antenna mast so I need to get another 20 ft pipe to push that mast up to 40 ft or more.  That'l be a bear to raise up above the roof.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a digital antenna.  I'll have to tell my dad.  He and mom just receive what TV channels they can get via antenna, being too thrifty to pay for satellite.  They have the converter box now, but I think he still has an old antenna.

Perhaps digital wasn't the right word to use.  The box is labeled HDTV antenna.  It is very like the antenna I just took down only much smaller.  The old one was Radio Shack also.

Be careful. You don't want to have to explain to the ER what the pantyhose are for.

Yes, I wish they'd put Gardener's Journal back on too.  When we moved here in 2000 and had to get satellite for the TV instead of cable, it was the first time I was able to watch HGTV (since our old cable provider didn't offer it).  That winter they had Gardener's Diary and Gardener's Journal on every weekday back to back from 7 am to 8 am.  Every day!  I thought I'd found such a magnificent new TV channel.  Then they started messing with me...

Try 5:30 my time-Gardener's Diary, Rebecca, and Paul James. All 3 in a row. I can't see for the life of me why they can't be on at a decent time. A friend of mine from Canada records gardening programs for me and brings them once a year when she visits. Everyone should have a friend like her!!

I'm willing to get up a little early to watch Gardener's Diary at 6:30, but I don't believe I would do it at 5:30.  That might make me motivated to figure out how to record shows.  I dislike Rebecca's Garden and I can't watch Paul James at 7:30 because that's when I start work.  Your Canadian friend sounds wonderful.  I wish I had a connection like that.

I agree with you that it's a great show. I recently visited a friend who I hadn't seen in awhile and she showed me her garden and it so reminded me of Gardener's Diary. We have DirectTV and we can record shows to watch but I tried to find Gardener's Diary to record it and it doesn't seem to be on the schedule (although it is listed as still airing on HGTV). Do you have a recorder so you could record the show?

I do wish there were more good gardening shows on TV; not just landscaping shows.

It's on at 6:30 am on Fridays.  The schedules they print in the paper don't start that early.

I've got it set to record. Thank you for the heads -up that it was even on still.
