Nookfest 2005
okay I'm sort of kicking around these dates for the fest, either one is fine for me, so it all depends on what the consensus says. I'm thinking of Friday June 3rd to Sunday June 5th, or Friday June 10 till Sunday June 12th.
perhaps some of the more seasoned festers can e-mail me with info with regards with what I should be doing. I'm thinking of perhaps visiting Nettlecreek Nursery, hoping to be able to get someone to hand out phytos, unless there's a Hort school open house with plants for sale, where there might be someone qualified for writing them up. the other visit of course would be the RBG, I'm not sure but they might have the Lilac Festival happening, I'll have to check their site.

Maybe just leave it as Nanookfest.

Well, I'm actually up for a little Nookiefest, myself.

The Niagara parks and the Butterfly conservatory are always nice.

yes, but I thought, someone told me it was a little on the pricey side!

either weekend is fine with me - so I hope the voting begins!

that is awesome! Hopefully we'll get more otf'rs to help us decide.

Phytos? what is a phyto?
Eroomgardener, Zone 6 or 7 depending.
Phyto sanitary certificate. You often see them slapped on the side of the carton of plants purchased by mailorder. Means they've been inspected and safe to transport.
Perhaps they mean more than that, but that's my understanding.

I am always learning.

kitty is right! you can't bring plants into or out of a country without one. It is usually done by an inspector at a cost, but it gives the green lite, saying that there is no fungus or insect on the plant or soil!
That is thoughtful of you.
Have you looked up the happenings in June?
Eroomgardener, Zone 6 or 7 depending.
it would just be nice for the festers to be able to bring some of the rare plants home since my friend sells them so inexpensively, also they are fairly small so even being able to either ship or carry home won't be a problem!
sorry, I don't understand about the happenings in June, do you mean up here?
Yes. You mentioned Nettlecreek and RBG.
Eroomgardener, Zone 6 or 7 depending.
ahh, I haven't talked to my friend yet, I'm waiting for more responses from the rest of the otf'rs, and I haven't had a chance to check out the RBG yet!
edited to add:
I just went thru the calender for the RBG unfortunately the lilac festival is at the end of May, and the next festival isn't until the 18 of June.
Oh well, we could always visit the gardens, but I think going the Niagara way might be fun, there are a few wineries along the way! :-)

Niagra Falls?
Eroomgardener, Zone 6 or 7 depending.
the Niagara area, I'm only about 40 minutes from the Falls, and that's where the Butterfly Conservatory is. It may even be less the 40 minutes because of the highway drive! There are also some pretty good nurseries along the way!

Sounds like a beautiful place to live.
Eroomgardener, Zone 6 or 7 depending.

In my particular spot it's not bad but I'd still rather live in at least a zone 7 place. Much more in the way of plants to have as well, not the same amount of snow and cold. I still detest the cold and winter!

Okay, where exactly are you located and where are there places to stay around you?

Hi Kag! I live in the outskirts of Hamilton, Ontario, which is about 35 minutes Northwest from Niagara Falls. There are some motels, and bed and breakfasts very close to me, but I have a lot of room for anyone not minding using sleeping bags or air mattresses. If the consensus is to bring children, they'll be 5 from this end to play with. I can make arrangements to get rid of mine with family if most do not want the kids around, and if I get mine out there'll be 3 bedrooms as well as a sofa bed for sleeping arrangements. I'm leaning towards the weekend of June 3 -5 , but again this depends on whats good for everyone! I hope that you can make it!

Ah... a nice 8 hour trip. More with the kid. Don't think I'll make it again this year. It's just too far. Have fun though.

Your first job is to prepare the soil. The best tool for this is your neighbor's garden tiller. If your neighbor does not own a garden tiller, suggest that he buy one.
