Rare books recovered. was 'stolen from horticultural library' (post #16332)
A number of rare and valuable books were missing this week from the horticultural library at Planting Fields Arboretum. I'll post more info and a list when I have that available...
update:
Yes, the back door of the library was open
Yes, the rare book room was unlocked
Yes, at least two people checked the whole library for said books.
But things can be missed in a panic...
all the missing books have now been accounted for- some on the reference shelf, some in the stacks, and some just out of place...
The rare book room now has a new lock and all volumes are being photographed for easier ID.
Sometimes a scare like that has a positive impact!
Thanks for your concern :)

Art, how dreadful. We used to visit Planting Fields Arboretum when we lived in Queens and it was a beautiful place. Hope they can find the rare books soon.

Maybe you can distribute that (post #16332, reply #2 of 5)
Maybe you can distribute that same list to some Antique/collectors Bookshops.

Art, are you working or volunteering at Planting Fields these days?

Neither... well, I occasionally help my mom at the library, but not volunteering on a regular basis. But my mom does work there as head librarian.

Similarly, I was able to unravel some book pieces a few year back and though they were not in pristine condition, I always thought that they had some dear value onto them.
I had them appraised by the national library and certified to be of authentic copy and release. After that, you could either have it sold at an auction or on one of those pawn shops. But I would not expect to get a large sum if you choose to go with the latter.
