Has anyone tried to use old palm trees as poles for building a roof? I´m planning to cut these ones and use them to build what in Mexico a roof using the poles anchored in its own roots, but I don´t know how could I keep them from rottening.

Palms as building material (post #19266, reply #1 of 2)
In most all of the pacific island nations palm trees were the only source of building material so they were used to make buildings and the fronds were used for roofing.. You probably need to check the local building codes where you plan on doing this to see if it is permitted today.

Using the tree´s roots as anchor to the ground? (post #19266, reply #2 of 2)
Thanks for the quick response Kimmi.
The trees now are alive, and I want o cut them at the height I need and saving all the burying job, by using the roots as anchor to the ground, but I´m afraid that once dead the tree stem wil rotten. I think I could aply some deck preservation solution, but I´m not sure about it.
