Suet for birds
In the past I've rendered suet before putting it out for the birds. One book says that isn't necessary; just put out the chunk of suet from the butcher and the birds will pick out the edible bits. Is that true? I assumed that rendering was necessary because the meat and connective tissue would spoil.

rendering suet (post #19439, reply #1 of 1)
When temperatures are fairly warm suet can turn rancid fairly quickly and that may not be good for the birds. When temperatures stay below the 60's rendering is not really necessary.
