We have 3 maple trees on our and neighbor's properties that have black tar spots. What should we do with the fallen leaves. I compost most organic maaterials, but compost pile doesn't get hot enough to destroy any diseased matter. HELP! The leaves are falling fast. One option is to rake up for delivery to county composting site.

Black Tar Spot (post #19392, reply #1 of 1)
Is not a real problem. Maples ("Acer") have had this disease for eons and some years it is bad and other years barely noticeable. If I don't mulch mow the leaves back into the soil they do get composted and that has done nothing to increase or decrease the incidence of hte disease.
