i planted a couple bleeding hearts about a year and a half ago but they dont seem to be doing anything.....whats wrong? will they grow in ohio? it said it would but its not coming up for me.....

They will grow there. They grow here and we're colder than you.


Go for a shady spot that stays damp. Nice loose soil helps too. I believe some here used the following in explaining what to expect after you put somethign in the ground:


year 1 - Sleeps
year 2 - Creeps
year 3 - leaps.


If it doesn't take hold and grow by year 3, yer probably needing to revisit the plant. Until then, be patient. Remember, only annuals are designed to bloom and grow bushy in year one.

It was me who shared the sleep, creep, and leap saying.  You are right about the growing conditions.  My mother, however, kept one in a pot for years. Pat/Lunaria

Did you start them from seed?   Or a plant?   Where I live they die back after blooming and leave a bare spot that is easy to forget about, but they are still alive under there.   Pat/Lunaria

no i planted them from bulbs...any suggestions... dagwood helped me also
