Plant id needed in current article "Can you see the Stakes?"

In this useful article by Sydney Eddison, she shows a meadow rue stem tied. I think the meadow rue foliage is the low foliage in front of the stem. Can you please identify the plant with the tall foliage in back? This is the one I need to know how best to stake, prune, etc. It grows to over six feet from a dense clump and the flower stalk seems to grow quickly from a set of leaves so it's hard to put in individual stakes. I do trim the entire plant back early but it still doesn't seem to make much difference.

We will get that for you (post #18956, reply #1 of 2)

Sydney was just in the office, but I didn't see your question in time! I have to run over there tomorrow, so I will ask her then.

My guess is 'Herbstsonne' rudbeckia, but I will let you know the real answer.

Thanks (post #18956, reply #2 of 2)

I would really appreciate the info as this year it seems to be doing something different. Part of the plant is in it's usual "mounded" shape and part has shot upright. I thought I had pruned this late before but now I'm afraid to cut back the tall stems as this may be the flower stalks. I've divided it into three clumps so maybe I'll treat each a little differently and see what happens...
