In the spring I planted portulaca around a small tree that received full sun and my plants bloomed but didn't grow. They had almost no leaves. What did I do wrong? Tayta

Trees take an awful lot of water from the soil.  Portulaca can take a lot o heat and dryness but it has its limits.  Do you think it might have been too dry.

We have a watering system so I'm thinking maybe it got too much water. I think next year I'll plant it in several different areas around my house and see where it does best. Thanks for your input. Tayta

Is the portulaca you are referring to (sounds like) a succulent plant? If so, go ahead and carefully uproot and plant elsewhere, why not a Pot?? If it's what I'm thinking it is, they come from the Crassula family (like Jade Plants, etc) and are commonly called "Elephants Foot or food??? So, if it's that type, needs well, but VERY WELL draining soil, which isn't happening under a tree, soil too compact, yes? Depending upon your location, I wish to advise, that succulents really don't do that well in FULL Sun, nope, they appreciate A.M. sun and then filtered shade or sun location, will also work for them. Course, if you live in the N-N/E then full sun in winter is just fine! Is your's all green or the varigated type?? that one is white w/green stripes, very pretty. Can see at GoSucculent.com, either page through or use the drop down menu, chosing Crassula to see your plant. Of course, if it's NOT a succulent then disregard everything I've just written, it'll prove I don't know what the heck I'm going on and on, about! Fun Gardening and Happy Landings, from Tucson, AZ

Confused with Thread Title (post #12009, reply #4 of 4)

What has Portulaca gotten to do with Moss Roses ?

Rosa centifolia ( The original  'cabbage' rose , aka Provence Rose'  ) is a bit of a different animal  from a succulent .

Begging your pardon, in advance.
