Thank you to whoever is responsible for the latest changes. This is MUCH easier to read and follow. The dumped right column is a great plus. The simple white background with black or dark green text much, much easier on the eyes. I'm sure a doctor could explain somehow (I can't), but that change alone makes it easier to understand the whole site. being able to search without knowing the thread number is wonderful. Also, having fewer points of access to each thread is simpler too. I believe you'll find me posting here more often.

I haven't investigated, so I don't know how this next thing works. I have been a bit concerned that replies are not being read by the original poster. It often appears that a question is asked but no discussion really develops and the person who asks is often never heard from again. Is notification automatic unless the member requests otherwise or is non-notification the default? If the latter, I think I'd change it.

I agree, there are (post #16516, reply #1 of 11)

I agree, there are improvements, and it is certainly more apealing aesthetically.There is one thing that's getting old, in case anyone out there is still registering complaints. My screen has a lot of what I presume is html code at the bottom, below the Fine Gardening 'credits', and on some computer screens it covers up the bottom of the forum so I can't read it. It's not a terrible problem since the activity on the forum is so low, but if it ever does pick up again it will make it unusable for some people. Unless it's just me who's seeing that.

It's not just you, the code (post #16516, reply #2 of 11)

It's not just you, the code is there at the bottom of mine too, but it doesn't take up that much space on mine. A bigger hangup for me is the left column scrolling in tandem with the message blocks. Iwish they could separate those out.

What software are you running? (post #16516, reply #3 of 11)

I don't have either problem you guys are having. What software are you running? If it is a bug, I might be able to get it fixed. (Strong emphasis on "might" , with the acknowledgement that "might" in this sentence means the same things as in the following usages: "The Cubs might win the World Series this year." and "I might get hit by a meteor today.")

But I will try.

I'm using Windows operating (post #16516, reply #4 of 11)

I'm using Windows operating systems (Windows 2000 or XP) and I see it with either IE or Firefox. I'll have to double check whether or not I get it on Firefox on my Mac laptop. It's only on the Fine Gardening Forum and not on any of the others (Cooks Talk, Breaktime, etc), so I'm guessing there's a bug in here. (How appropriate for a gardening forum.) This is what I'm seeing at the bottom of the screen, center justified below the Taunton info that's on all the Forum pages:

var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www.");
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));

try {
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-4535902-1");
pageTracker._trackPageview( "/finegardening/forums" + window.location.pathname + window.location.search );
} catch(err) {}

I see it too, in both (post #16516, reply #5 of 11)

I see it too, in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Steve, I'll send you a screen shot. At least it's at the bottom of the page, and in that position it can easily be ignored until it gets fixed.

Actually, it's not always (post #16516, reply #6 of 11)

Actually, it's not always easy to ignore. When a thread gets to a certain length the extra space taken up by the code makes the bottom banner cover the bottom of the frame that the posts are in.

Refresh your screen and take a look.

Scrolling (post #16516, reply #9 of 11)

Steve -

you said you didn't have "either" problem; does that mean your left column doesn't scroll together with the posts when you're scrolling down the posts? I'm using Windows EXP and IE. If there's a way to split the two apart for scrolling I'd love to know what it is. I titally understand the "might" part. Thanks

I don't have that problem (post #16516, reply #10 of 11)

Marty,

First, let me enjoy actually not having a problem. But when I scroll, I scroll. Everything stays where it was. Have you expanded a box or something?

By the way, I am totally out of my depth here, and the only reason that strange code at the bottom of the page got fixed is because Ruth stepped in.

I do (post #16516, reply #11 of 11)

Isn't it great when someone makes you look good, and you don't have to do anything to make it happen? I haven't done anything that I know of. When I scroll down to read all the posts bith the posts and the left column scroll together. You can't scroll one or the other; you have to scroll both. This is one of the TOP complaints about the new site from the old gang that moved. If that one could get fixed it would really, really help.
