Finish the pot

Okay, I'm putting purple fountain grass in the center of my pot. What plants would you surround it with?

OK, how big a pot and does the planting have to last all summer?

I've got a swirly darkish blue pot, about 2 1/2 feet across; lasting all summer would be a plus but I'm not opposed to replacing plants from time to time if the oppresive Louisiana heat warrants it.

ok, big pot... at that size I'd call it a planter../ and hot/humid climate.

Howabout some 'Kong' Coleus - large leaves to contrast w the narrowness of the grass. sweetpotato vine to trail over the side... and one more plant, but nothing comes to mind at the moment

I used both of your recommendations in the garden last year for the first time. Think I will definitely put a sweet potato vine in there and some coleus but maybe not the giant kind...I was kind of disappointed with the one I had last year. Thanks!

With that colour of grass I think of something hot coloured, like zinnia, golden/red cosmos, crocosmia, canna lily, golden oregano, golden moneywort, violet/magenta cleome, coreopsis (one with red on its petals), lychnis molten lava, nasturtium, purple basil etc.
