I think that the fruit is so new that it's being reserved for fruit production right now. With the success of the fruit, it should show up at fruit tree specialty nurseries. May be a few years, though. A grower has to know there'll be demand before they invest in stock to sell.

Jeana, do you grow fruit? Do you think Black Velvet will be available in a dwarf variety?

I doubt it will. It's only the most popular fruits that they put on dwarf stock. You might try contacting several fruit tree specialists to voice your desire to get this tree. That's one way they decide what to grow.

Maybe we could call on David Doud for answers on this.  Right now he is recovering from sponsoring "PeachFest" for all the BreakTimers at his Indiana fruit farm this past weekend and I am kicking myself for not going.  Plantlust was there.  The fink. She abandon us for the Cooks Talk.  Coleen, AKA Splintergroupie, showed up with the Moosedrool for those whom Bud Lite doesn't do it.  I didn't see Wolvie in any of the pics, but she would certainly fit in with all those builders.  We useta have great Fests, too.  Sigh.  Anyway, for those who don't know him, David doud was our MasterGardener of fruit trees.  Perhaps he has info on new fruit tree introductions.
