Raspberry (post #16706)

I live in Tempe AZ and have a summer home in Pinetop AZ (7300 ft elivation) . Is it possible to grow Respberrys in the Tempe locaion? What variety? What conditions?

I think the Pinetop area will be more suitable, it has cold winters and mild summers --pine forest--soil is rather thin over vocananic base. What variety would be more suitable for that location? Any other recommendations for that location?

Will appreciate any help. Thanks  Doug

I have tried raspberries,  to really enjoy them you would need a fairly good size plot. They need an open area in full sun, as they easily succumb to  wilt and mildew. They also need proper yearly pruning to keep the plot going, and regular irrigation. One or two plants are necessary for even pollination. Organic practice is where they can shine, they are heavy feeders.
