Indoor herbs for winter

RuthWells's picture

Hiya folks,

I'd like to try to overwinter some of my culinary herbs inside, and be able to use them for cooking during the cold months.  Problem is, I don't have a good window spot to plunk a bunch of pots.  Possible solution -- my new seed rack with fluorescent lights?  Will pots of herbs be happy living under lights for 5 months?

TIA!

Just about any of them if you give them the right potting soil and watering and 16 hours of light a day.  Easy ones would be basil and rosemary.

Thanks, Jeana!  The seed rack is finished & I'm dying to fill it up.

16 hoursof light? Wow.. that would be wonderful. I would jump on the chicken myself for sixteen hours of sun! Up here in zone 3.. OKAY i dug up the baby rosemary.. she's not going to make it through winter anyway..put her in some potting soil.. she is on the side of the house that gets the sunrise.. But I don't know what to expect. We heat with wood.. so the inside temp can really fluctuate.
