Radishes - bulbs don't form
For the past four years I have planted spring radishes (Cherry Belle) only to have them grow without forming bulbs. My onions also do not form bulbs but the greens are fine on both. When the warm weather hit the radishes bolt and go to seed.
Any ideas about what I am doing wrong?

Radish bulbs don't form (post #17256, reply #1 of 3)
All I can do is commiserate. I have the same problem. The only thing I can determine is the particular spot only gets a few hours of direct sun a day by the date you should expect radishes. Get plenty of snow peas from that spot, however.

Make sure you are thinning the plants, if they are crowded there is no room for the bulbs to form. Also, I'm not entirely sure, but I would think a high nitrogen fertilizer would tend to cause leaf growth and not root growth, make sure you are using a fertilizer for vegies.
Radishes like cool weather... (post #17256, reply #3 of 3)
so be sure to plant them early in the season. I've noticed over the years that my early plantings do well, but a second planting (when it is warmer) usually doesn't. I get greens, but no bulbs.
