Iris from a friend

I live in the Dallas TX area.  A friend of mine just gave me some Iris.  What should I do with them?  Dry them out in 100 degree garage and plant them in a month?  Stick them in the ground now minus the tops and water them?

Beg pardon - not seen this until 5 months later.

 

I hope you planted them out , rather than baking them. 

I don't know much about them except the basics of :-Well-drained / Sandy soil & didviding them in the late summertime, every few years.  Leaving a bit-of-green on a pair of the Fans per piece,  & water them in.   

Ask your friend - wherabouts did they grow & did they do o.k.?

Thanks.  I did not bake them left them in the shade wraoed in paper and well watered  I will plant them this weekend then.  Thanks for the input otherwise I may have baked them.
