Where to start?

I'm looking to line the back of my property line with trees with 2 purposes in mind: one for privacy from the adjacent property and two for shade.  The property isn't large 60' wide so i'm not looking for something too tall and wide.  Does anyone have any recommendations where i can start to look for ideas?

We'd need to know where you're located (roughly) and what kind of conditions (sun, shade, damp, dry, etc.).

Located on Long Island, NY.  The area gets sun most of the day, though, there would be some shade as the sun rises and sets from nearby trees.

Welcome to the "Fence.  One of our members from Long Island used to say that he gardened on a sandbar in the ocean.  You are prolly zone 7a, right? If you want fast results and year round screening you might try Lealand cypress.  They seem pretty versitle.
