Asiatic Lily Bulbs/Bulblettes
While madly trying to get all the final planting done before the frosts come, I dug up some Asiatic lily bulbs that I consider "de trop" for my garden. I don't have a picture, but they're rather unusual. The blooms are quite striking, with mustardy/gold yellow petals and burgundy/rust spots. They bloom somewhat later than my other Asiatics and are an unusal accent in the early summer garden. I have them planted amongst barberries, and they combine nicely with the reddish foliage.
Anyhoo, I'd be delighted to share these extras with anyone who'd like them. I don't have zillions, so first come, first served!

Hey, Ruth, Hijack alert!
Any tomato seeds you might want that I could bring to Tracyfest for you? (I have a smaller collection than Wolvie, but not by much, LOL).

I did see your post over at CT while I was sick, and couldn't find it again when I felt better! Sorry for seeming to ignore your lovely offer. Gee, it would be fun to try a new tomato next year...... if you want to pick one of your favorites for me, that would be delightful! My seed collection is in desperate need of organization, but I have fond hopes of getting that done before the weekend. Do you need any brocolli raab or spinach? I also saved seed from my coleus 'Black Dragon' this year if you'd like some. I had great germination with the commercial seed this year.

I wasn't offended--just figured my offer got lost in the shuffle. I'm glad you're feeling better, by the way.
Oooh, I'd love some of the Black Dragon coleus (my DH loves coleus and I always try to grow some for him). And a little Broccoli Raab would be nice, too.
Would you like a fun tomato (purple, orange, etc.) or a reliable producer-type tomato?
Leigh
How about a fun tomato? I already grow Kellogg's Breakfast, so a purple tomato would be fun! Many thanks, and I'll bring the coleus and broc raab. (Good incentive to get the seed area cleaned up -- added bonus!)

Do you want to give me a last name to put on the package, or will your mailman deliver it addressed to "Betty"?
Thanks!

Ruth, they arrived earlier this week in good shape. Thank you so much. Should I go ahead and plant them now or wait until spring? We're still frost free down here, and the ground doesn't ever freeze where I plan to put them.
I would put them in now, if you have the time. Get a jump start on next season's flowers!

Ruthwells, Oh Rats! Think of me in the future..I love my star gazing lillies. They perfume my patio something wonderful...I wanted to find a lilly that woud naturalize a wooded area. I do have a cottontail problem here in Ohio but, I usually plant lillies close to the house & my sheltie seems to help also. Daisy

Daisy,
We have some lovely Martagon Lilies in our Woodland Fen garden at the Display Gardens at the extension office. However, dee love lilies as much as bunnies. any deer in your wooded area?
Kitty (we are also in Zone5)

kmrsy, What display garden are you talking about? I never grew a martagon lilium but I heard they are winter hardy & difficult to establish...? I'd like something that would multiply fairly quickly ....Do the rabbits eat all lilies? Daisy

I'm in Fort Wayne, IN and we have MG display gardens on the IPFW campus.
Details on Lilium martagon:

And good pictures: http://snipurl.com/c6px
If you want a lily that multiplies rapidly, that would be Asiatics or A/L hybrids. However, these don't do that well in shade. And yes, rabbits love all lilies. I have 5 cats, so the bunnies leave my lilies alone.
I have to back up here just a little. I have been talking strictly Lilium here, as have the others. But often, people who ask about lilies may mean anything that has the word lily in the common name. Are you also interested in other woodland plants that are not true liles that might multiply more quickly?
kmrsy, Cat Lady! Thank you for the facts & photo...I'll have to have some of these! I have interest in other woodland plants also...Thanks for your time this morning! Daisy

Surely, a turkscap lily, which naturally occurs at woods edge, would grow in dappled shade? I don't know how fast they multiply. Trout Lily is a nice spring woodland plant (maybe not a true 'lily') it has a nice lily look. Fritilaria (snakes head) have a 'lily' look and do well in dappled light, I am trying out a new variety (for me), not snakes head, which is maroon and gold. Blackberry lily like a bit of light but I've grown it under a japanese maple. Then there are jack in the pulpit, wild iris and ladys slipper which have that form also and are associated with woodlands.

This is probably going to be a really dumb question, but what is "de trop"?
