Hi RCHimes,
It's been two years since your posting so I am wondering if you have found seeds for the Sanibel cabbage. The closest I could come to it through Google was for "swamp cabbage" which is actually the heart of the cabbage palm. Was this what you meant? The only mention of Sanibel cabbage was in a scholarly report on an experiment documented in 1985. It's an elusive enough item that I am intrigued.

No, I still have not found any source for Sanibel Cabbage seeds. My uncle grew it a few years ago and it made the best kraut ever. He got it from Jungs Seed Catalog but they do not carry it anymore. The only seed source I found is called Bonanza Seeds in CA. They only sell in bulk, at least 5 lbs and overseas only. I only have a small backyard garden and need about 1/4 ounce. I have searched every online source and can not find it, the companies buying it must be calling it something else.  I will not give up......

Hi Stina,

When I looked it up through Google, the swamp cabbage was the tightly rolled, undeveloped leaves at the heart of the palm tree, but RHimes wanted seeds to plant and said that they had been available through a seed company up until a few years ago so I am assuming he meant something else. For myself, I have never seen a cabbage palm or Sanibel cabbage so I couldn't say. However, it's been enlightening just looking the stuff up on Google.
